| In spite of its low price PhotoLine 32 offers every function needed for professional image processing: 16 bit per color channel CMYK and Lab color space Color management with ICC profiles Lossless image processing Lossless image processing is made possible by adding functions to an image without changing the original data. This way you lose no information and have access to the unmodified image data every time you want to. Layer masks Layer masks hide parts of the accompanying image. Working layers Working Layers operate on the image data beneath them. Their field of operation can be restricted by a mask. There are the following Working Layers available: Curves, False Color, Histogram Correction, Hue/Saturation, Color Balance, Unsharp Masking, Gaussian Blur, Median, Perturbation and much more. Scaling/rotating If an image is rotated or scaled in a document, the image data won't be modified but only the corresponding information will be added to the image. Digital photo imaging: Digital Camera Raw data PhotoLine can import the raw image data - the so-called raw-files - of nearly every digital camera. You can find a detailed list of the supported cameras here. EXIF data EXIF data are saved by digital cameras together with the image data. They contain useful informations like the camera model, the focal length, the time of exposure and so on (see also EXIF Data in PhotoLine). IPTC data IPTC data are used to add additional informations to an image. Some of these are the author, a description and keywords, that allow categorizing images and this way easier retrieval (see also IPTC Data in PhotoLine). Corrections •Light/Shadow adjusts brightness errors •Connect Images can be used to combine two differently exposed photos to a single better one •White Point corrects the white point of an image automatically or manually •The Color Temperature can be set or adjusted •Chromatic Aberration corrects color distortions at edges •Image Noise reduces the color and brightness noise in an image •Red Eyes removes red pupils caused by the flash of the camera •Lens Correction corrects the distortions caused by the curvature of the lens •Perspective distortions can easily be fixed by using the layer tool or the rectangular lasso Standard filters There is every standard filter available like Unsharp Masking (USM), Sharpen, Soften, Gaussian Blur, Adaptive Soften, Motion Blur and more Retouch filters Optimize Contrast, Remove Dust/Scratches, Descreen, Remove Waste, Deinterlace and more Correction tools Histogram correction and online histogram, curves with contrast, brightness and gamma correction, Hue/Saturation, etc. Browse Functions: Create print document This function takes the selected pictures and creates a document containing them. The resulting document can have more than one page. Create HTML file The selected files are put together as a HTML gallery which can be used on a web page. Show image The "Show Image"-command allows to switch between the pictures in a folder. You can use this function to get an overview over the pictures made with a digital camera and to do the first steps in editing them. Furthermore you can move or copy good pictures and delete bad ones. Rename images These function allows to rename the pictures files according to a very flexible scheme. You can use IPTC and EXIF data as well as fix parts for example taken from the original filename or consecutive numbers. Copy EXIF date This functions copies the EXIF date to the file date. This is useful after editing an image, because this editing usually changes the file date. By that the sorting order of the file is changed. But as the EXIF date isn't modified, the original file date can be restored. Rotate images automatically Many digital cameras are able to store in the EXIF data, whether the photo was taken landscape or portrait. In this case PhotoLine can rotate the images automatically to the right orientation. Keywords The Browse function can be used to easily assign keywords to or remove them from the selected pictures. A powerful search function allows to find pictures with one or more given keywords afterwards. Copy/move/delete pictures With the Browse function you can copy or move pictures to other folders. Deleting of folders and pictures is supported, too. Rotate pictures The Rotate command can rotate JPEG images lossless without recompressing the image data. DTP/layout/text: PDF files PhotoLine can save documents as PDF. On doing that text and vector graphic is - if possible - not reduced to pixel graphics. On saving optionally all color information in a document can be converted to CMYK. PhotoLine can also import PDF files. The import keeps the structure of the document intact text is read as text layers and vector graphics are read as vector layers. Documents with multiple pages PhotoLine is able to work with documents containing more than one page. This allows the creation of booklets and flyers. In contrast to classic image processing PhotoLine can create empty pages (pages without a background image) which can be used to place images, text and vector graphics. Powerful text functions Aside from the usual rectangular text boxes text in PhotoLine can run along vector paths, too. Furthermore, text can flow from one text box to another or to the next page. Text flowing around or inside another object is also possible. Dynamic effects Dynamic effects are functions, that are only added to a layer and don't modify the layer data. This allows accessing the original data every time you want to, which means, afterwards text can still be edited as normal text and vector graphics as vector graphics. There are three groups of dynamic effects: Distort, Outline Warping, Free Roughen, Angled Roughen, Central Roughen, Zigzag and Twist. 3D body Any layer can be displayed as 3D body. Effects like Shadow outside/inside, Glow outside/inside, 3D-Shadow, Outline outside/inside, Outer/Inner Emboss, Special Emboss, Stripes, Inner Blend, Color Overlay, Create Structure, Window Shades/Tubes, Magnifier Effect. Effect filters Mosaic, Lightning, Lights, Emboss, Projection, Tear Paper, Clouds, Perturbation, Perspective Tiling, Lense Flare, Image On Image, Swirls, Create Pattern, Shadow, 3D-Shadow, Aquarelle, Structure, Relief, Ripple, Vault, Waves, Make Circular, Grid Distortion, Distort Image With Image, Distort With Arrows, Distort Frame, Morph, Page Curl, Bend Image, Sponge, etc. Frames PhotoLine can create many pleasing frames. The frames are created as additional layers, therefore they can be edited afterwards very easily. Calendar Because of the flexible concept of PhotoLine it is possible to create calendars with multiple pages. All you have to do is to insert your pictures and the calendar can be printed. Barcodes The Barcode function creates barcodes as vector layers which can be scaled and rotated without limitation. Font overview PhotoLine can create a document that contains every font installed on your computer. Internet/animations: Button creator The Button Creator creates animated buttons. PhotoLine will create the picture files and the needed Javascript code as well. Dynamic animation Dynamic animation is used to create animated graphics. The dialog has 3 main parts: Preview, Time Bar and Layers. Additional functions: Web export In order to find the best compromise between file size and image quality PhotoLine offers the function Web Export. It shows the original image and two variants after saving. The parameters of the two save variants - like color reduction and compression factor - can be changed very quickly and their effect and the resulting file size is shown immediately. Tile image This function splits an image, saves the resulting parts and creates HTML code to display them Reduce colors In order to create space-efficient files PhotoLine has a function to reduce the number of colors used by an image. Raster transparency The GIF file format is not able to display full transparency. It can only display the states "transparent" and "opaque". Therefore PhotoLine can reduce full transparency by using different dithering schemes. Image maps PhotoLine can create image maps, too. Additional features: Actions The operations applied to an image can be recorded as "Actions" (sometimes called "Macro"). This allows you to apply the same functions to a different image later. Batch converting By using the function Batch Converting every picture file in a folder can be converted to a specific file format (for example JPEG). You can additionally apply a previously recorded action to every picture. This allows to perform nearly every possible image processing task. Slideshow PhotoLine can save slideshows as PDF and as Flash/SWF. Undo PhotoLine can undo up to 999 operations. Printing PhotoLine allows to print a document at any location and in any size. By using the document mode several images can be printed on a single sheet of paper and the images can be placed freely on the sheet. The Label mode fills a sheet with a picture by printing it repeatedly. The Poster mode distributes large images to several sheets. These sheets can be glued together to get the full image. The Pages mode allows to print several pages on a single sheet of paper. The order of the pages can be changed, so that the result can be used to create a booklet. Furthermore the mode Greeting Card prints the content of a document with 4 pages, so that the resulting sheet of paper can be folded to a greeting card. |

| New in Version 17.00 The main focus of the new version 17 is image processing. In addition, various functions are now faster and many minor improvements have been made. Common functions Simple Browse The Simple Browse window is a simplified variant of the normal Browse window. All parts with the exception of the file list have been omitted. The result is a space efficient panel which can stay open all the time. Trim Image Trim Image removes the transparent edges of an image and thus reduces its size. Export Color Profile You can use this function to save the color profile embedded in a document. Selective Color Correction is used for adjusting colors in an image. It originally comes from the prepress industry and therefore the correction is limited to the printing colors cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Colors controls which colors will be corrected. You can modify several colors withou leaving the dialog. Threshold The function Threshold converts an image to pure black and white. You can define a threshold value, and the parts of the image brighter than that threshold will become white, and the rest black. Function for "Smart" Removal PhotoLine has two tools for "smart" removal: •The Remove Brush You mark the area you want to remove with the Remove Brush. It is mainly used for small areas. •Remove Object Remove Object removes the selection. As it offers additional features to influence the result, it is better suited for large areas. If you apply one of these tools, PhotoLine will search for matching image parts in the neighborhood and will insert them instead of the original content. This is a random process, so if you are not satisfied with a result, you can use Retry in the Tool Settings, and you might get a better result. Scale Layer with "Liquid" Mode "Liquid" will not scale the image equally, but instead it will try to keep the size of the important parts and to scale only the unimportant ones. You can create a selection to define the important parts by yourself. The quality of Liquid scaling heavily depends on the scene of the photo. New and enhanced tools for creating cut-out masks New tools make it easier to create cut-out masks: •The Mask Brush Using the Mask Brush you can directly edit the mask. It is mainly used for fixing minor glitches. •The Quick Selection The Quick Selection is used for semi-automatic creation of cut-out masks. •The Border Matting Tool With the Border Matting tool you can cut-out translucent parts of an object. Usually it is used to post-process an already existing selection. Aside from that there are a view helper functions: •A magnifier. •Selections can be copied with automatic removal of color fringes. •Extract Selection can be used to enhance the edge of a selection. The Mask Brush The Mask Brush is used to edit an existing mask. You don't have to turn on the mode "Edit Mask" in order to do this. The Mask Brush has two subtools. The brush allows editing parts of an image and is adding them to the selection this way. The eraser protects image parts from editing and removes them from the selection. You can access the eraser quickly by holding Alt. You can use the right mouse button, too, if you have configured PhotoLine that way (in the preferences see "Clear with right mouse button"). The Quick Selection tool You use the Quick Selection tool in two steps. First you create a rectangle enclosing the object. PhotoLine will then automatically start computing a first proposal for the selection. In the second step you repeatedly place object and background marks, until you are satisfied with the result. The Border Matting tool The Border Matting tool is used to create cut-out masks for semi-transparent areas like hair. Usually you first create a basic selection with another tool - i.e. the Quick Selection tool or the automask - and enhance that with the Border Matting tool in the critical areas. Magnifier in the View window The Magnifier shows an enlarged view of the piece of the document at the current mouse position. It has three working modes. Document shows the whole document, Layer the active layer and Selection only the current selection. The modes Layer and Selection allow to define a background color. This is especially useful for the mode Selection, because by choosing an appropriate background color you can control the quality of your selection more easily. Copy without colored edge Copy without colored edge copies the selection of the active image layer. On copying the colors of the background will be removed from the edge of the selection depending on the mask values. This way the result can be inserted in a new document without a disturbing colored fringe. Extract Selection Extract Selection has 3 subtasks: •You can smooth the edge of the mask. This doesn't use simple blurring, bit instead filters the edge according to the content of the selection. Smoothing is mainly useful as a post-processing step after using the Border Matting tool. •The edge of the selection always contains colors of the background, too. These are disturbing, if the selection is copied to another picture. Therefore they optionally can be removed. •The result of the Extract Selection can be placed on the clipboard or a new layer or document can be created. If you don't remove the background colors, you can replace the active mask, too. |
