Digital Images. Analog Soul.

Now with non-destructive RAW editing, rapid file browsing, a slew of new film emulation presets and textures and featuring all the creative focus effects of Bokeh,
Alien Skin Exposure 7 brings even more of the organic warmth and artistry of analog photography to the world of digital.

Borne from more than a decade of research and input from industry-leading photographers around the globe, Exposure 7 provides you with a platform to instill your images with the subtle nuances and analog beauty of film photography. With Exposure 7, your photo will look hand-crafted, not computer-generated.

All the Creative Tools of the Film World

Over the course of the last ten years, Alien Skin immersed themselves in the rich history of analog photography in order to bring back all the creative tools of the traditional darkroom. From scientific analysis of discontinued color and B&W films to detailed observation of darkroom techniques, Exposure 7 was designed to give you new ways to think about your art, realize your vision, and stand out from the crowd.

Nuances Matter

Photographers know more than anyone that beauty lies in the tiniest of details and Exposure 7 is built with this philosophy in mind. Within a single Exposure preset, many small effects work together to achieve a coherent look. For instance, realistic grain clumps together and is stronger in the midtones. To discover all these subtle details, their research included test shoots with films that were still available. For discontinued films they relied on photo archives and the professionals who created them. Alien Skin also took time to analyze film grain under a microscope to get the characteristic look just right. As a result, Exposure renders grain accurately across the full dynamic range rather than just indiscriminately peppering the image with electronic noise like other programs do.

The technical aspects only tell one side of the story though. In building Exposure, the anthropology of learning from leading photographers who made their name shooting film was as important as the chemistry and math. Their thoughts on the look and feel of each film stock were woven into the presets along with the technical characteristics. The end result is that with Exposure the results feel authentic, even when the effect is not intense. Some Exposure looks are so subtle that people won’t consciously realize you altered your photo.

Develop Your Style

With over 470 presets and creative focus effects that emulate the warmth, softness and realistic grains of film, Exposure offers a wide range of starting points for developing your look. You’ll find accurate recreations of classic favorites like Kodachrome, TRI-X and Polaroid, plus exotic ones like Panatomic-X and GAF 500. If you discover a preset that sparks an idea, it’s easy to mold it to fit your needs. Save your new look as a preset with a name, category, and even include notes. Later, you can apply it to a photo (or batches of photos) with a single click.

Workflow Versatility

Exposure 7 fits into any workflow. It integrates seamlessly with Photoshop, Lightroom and Aperture and, with its new basic control panel and super fast processing, delivers excellent results as a standalone application.

WHAT'S NEW

Creative Focus Effects
Exposure 7 delivers all the powerful functionality of our creative focus and lens simulation program, Bokeh. So you can now draw attention to your subject by manipulating focus, vignette and depth of field. From simulation of fast lenses such as the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2 L and the Nikon 300mm f/2.8 through to tilt/shift and motion blur looks, Exposure 7 offers you an endless array of visually creative options.

RAW Support
As a standalone program, Exposure 7 will now allow you to work on RAW files from a wide range of cameras from all manufacturers without having to convert to a TIFF or JPEG first.

Non-Destructive Editing
Exposure 7 provides true non-destructive editing for RAW files in standalone mode. Your workflow is about to get a lot simpler and more streamlined!

Rapid Folder and File Browsing
Exposure 7 now provides rapid folder and file browsing right within the same UI when working in standalone mode. No need to switch between modules like in other programs; you can simply pull up batches or individual images and work on them right then and there.

Crop & Rotate
Also in standalone mode, Exposure 7 features a new, easy-to-use Crop and Rotate panel, which will help you get your images looking just right.
