So what is "Canvangelism" anyway? In my case, the conversion (seeing the light, if you will!) came back around 1997 when I read an ad for the then-new and yet-to-be-released Canvas 5 in a computer magazine. I was already familiar with Photoshop and Quark, but was intrigued by the idea of performing all of my graphics work in one single application (and an inexpensive one at that!). I didn't have my own computer at the time, but I bought Canvas anyway because I recognized a great deal! Once I got a computer I installed Canvas and it's been there ever since...
Over the years since then we've seen Canvas 6, 7, 8, 9 and X come along, and with each new version, further refinements to the still-unique concept of the integrated application. While I still enjoy using Photoshop or some other third-party application or plug-in for certain tasks, my graphics hub is Canvas. This is where my main designs take place (BTW, this website design was mocked up in Canvas 9 and X and most of the GIFs and JPEGs were rendered and exported from there). Canvas is a central area where any work done in the other applications is brought together along with Canvas content for export to PDF (in the case of The Canvangelist ezine) or perhaps print projects. And what is this "Canvangelist" all about? The many issues of the ezine you see on this site grew out of a single page of experimental Canvas artwork, which became the cover of issue #1. As time went by and each new issue came out, the concept of The Canvangelist was redefined until the point you see it todaya showcase for the capabilities of Canvas, as well as a repository of information about the latest in third-party applications that are of interest to the serious Canvas user. I enjoy using Canvas and exploring its capabilities, and I like learning about any software that can compliment my Canvas use. Speaking of fun software, see my companion website dedicated to digital imaging applications and plug-ins at www.plugsandpixels.com!
